The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 19, 2012

Outside my window...what   started out as a rainy,  dreary day  has  developed into a  beautiful   spring-like day  filled with  the promise of  better days to come...  of course only a day til spring  !

I am thinking...  what a joy it was to  create this new playlist for the coming  Easter season.

I am thankful..   for  my wonderful husband, our family, and our  comfortable home

In the kitchen...  leftovers....   delicious   corned beef  for sandwiches and  delightful mixed in with stewed potatoes and cabbage

I am creating...  a plan for  reorganizing  the basement storage  that is  real trick

I am going...   to be  having a couple of  quiet days  here at home for a  change...   I am loving that

I am wondering...  exactly how  soon do I need to make  my  October  travel plans and  reservations...Im thinking  I better  finalize the plans sooner rather than later

I am reading...

Karen Kingsbury's  Every Now and Then,  the 911 Series
this is the third in the 911 series and  it is so good I  just have a hard time putting it down!!!!   Highly recommneded!  Each book  jsut keeps getting better and better!
'Audio  book   Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James....  Now I downloaded this book on my ipod and  am listening to it   at night  before bed....  love it.. as it takes off  where  Pride and Prejudice leaves off.....   very cleverly  written!
The Book of James

Mercy Triumphs       by Beth Moore

The Metabolism Miracle  by  Diane Kress, RD, CDE  3 steps to regain control of your weight...permanently
This book comes highly recommended  for   those who are concerned about  lowering their blood sugar and losing weight

I am hoping...   really  begin to feel like  we have made some headway  down in the basement  before too long...     The basement   really was in dire need for being  cleared out!

I am looking forward to....seeing the flowering trees  in full bloom...   it should happen later this week  with these mild  sunny days!

I am learning... to trust the Lord more!

Around the house..  everyday spring  seems to settle in  comfortably and  beautifully in each room

I am pondering...  what to fix for supper

A favorite quote for today...
God has no pleasure in afflicting us, but He will not keep back even the most painful chastisement if He can but thereby guide His beloved child to come home and abide in the beloved Son. Andrew Murray
One of my favorite things..

Singing along with Josh Groban....

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Monday:   dealing with  a terrible  sinus headache  earlier today which kept me home , blogtime,
Tuesday- marketing, visit  mom and dad work on my Bible Study
Wednesday- work on my Bible Study,    laundry   Church supper and adult study
Thursday-work on    Bible Study , last night of Beth Moore's study on the book of James
Friday-  allergy shot,  take mom to the doctor
 Saturday-  free day

A peek into my day...

A Bit 'O Green on Pink Staurday(Revised and Complete)

Photobucket
Happy Pink Saturday!
But I'm seeing green today....
It's St. Patrick's Day, and I'm Irish!
We've already  celebrated     St. Paddy's Day   quite a bit  this week....  Our  senior  group at church  had a delightful  luncheon on Thursday

That  was a wonderful opportunity to  fellowship with  good friends and   enjoy  a fabulous  Brunswick stew prepared  by  some of the men in our group!!!
That evening,  my   parents  invited us to a  gathering  at their  place.... where authentic  Irish  canapes and  desserts  were served in style
Photobucket
along with a bit o' Irish  Stout!
Photobucket
I believe a good time was had by all!  HAHAHAHAH!

Later today  I will be  preparing  a  fabulous Irish dinner  inspired  by my daughter  who   is  preparing  the same in Boston.... to    try my  hand at corned beef  and  cabbage....more  about this     then.....!!!! I'm rather   tickled PINK  about it, actually!
It is now 4;34  and  Lynn and I just  enjoyed our  St Patrick's Day  early dinner....   I am so  excited  to have  prepared the most delectable Irish  meal....I know  Amanda, our daughter, would be  proud of her mama!  Tasty and all in one pot..   our  corned beef  and cabbage    really hit the spot..

pardon  my  yellows,  but  I am reminded that   easter is  just right around the corner this year, and a warren of bunnies  has taken up residence in my dining room... but more about that next time!!!

If You're Passing Through Lititz

Thursday Favorite Things
Katherine hosts this  blog hop each week   where  participants  share  their favorite things....

and  since I am deep in the throes of planning our   2012 trip to   New England   I  am   thinking  a lot about   one of my very favorite   things...  staying  at  bed and breakfasts!!!!
One of our  most favorite of all is  the Swiss Woods in Lititz, Pa near Lancaster.    We  stay here everytime we travel north.  It  cuts our trip  to  Massachusetts  right  in half.
 PhotobucketPhotobucket
The inn keeper  is  Swiss and  his gardens   look like something right out of  a European  magazine.
Photobucket
While the inside  looks   just as quaint as it  can be!
PhotobucketPhotobucket
We love to   book rooms on the first floor that  have  doors that step right out on the   rear gardens  where we  enjoy our first  morning coffee!

Photobucket
We will definitely  stay  here  both coming and going   this autumn....   I  can   hardly wait to see what   will be on the breakfast menu...

I know  I can count on  the best cup of coffee   and  home baked  biscotti!

Repurposing for Spring

AHAHAHAH!   I love this  new     blog party....   well, it is new to me....   and so appropriate to the season,   as well.
If you want to know more about  this one,  visit here!.

Ive been getting  so  exciting about  spring bursting forth everywhere... in our  neighborhood and community....  it is only appropriate it should  be reflected  more and more  inside, as well.  And to be perfectly honest....    there  truly is a good reason to  do  spring cleaning... for   in clearing out the basement   wonderful finds    keep being  uncovered....   things that had been  packed away so long that  some had lost their   value... while others   could be   brought forth  and to rejuvenate our spring revelry!

Washing and  revamping  old  droopy  silk florals  and    decorative  items  into new  displays  is such fun....     It is like Christmas   to find  a shopping bag of old silk  florals and decorative  pieces    looking sad, and  misshapen...      and bringing them back into  a lovely   vignette   helps make our house a home!!!

Outdoor Wednesday

God's majesty in creation  is an awesome  thing...  His palette, His brush strokes, and  creativity of design and intricacy of  each  cell  boggles  our minds.....

St. Paddy's Blog Crawl

Kathleen of Cuisine Kathleen is hosting the 4th Annual St. Patrick's Day Blog Crawl~ today! It's time to go green and share the joys of St Paddy's Day and celebrate our Irish roots.

Time to bring out the Belleek China and the shamrocks,

Green is the color of my true love's eyes, and the color of the day!!!

both indoors and out!

it's a time for planting, a time for growing...

A time for budding, and bursting forth in spring!!

Celebrate the greening!

Celebrate our Celtic heritage in faith and song!

Time to celebrate my Irish roots....

Make merry with mirth and glee!

Over a cup of tea!!

My family (O'Huigins) hailed from County Kilkenny from around Waterford, Ireland....They migrated here in the 1600's and moved across the state of Virginia seeking a land to call their own... They found a lovely valley deep in the Blue Ridge chain and settled there, raising horses and building a farmstead that would see several generations grow and populate the SW Virginia county of Grayson.. A fun loving folk they were known for their tale telling and good humour! I like to think I am a chip off the ole block!!! My students always told me I told the best stories!!!!!
For my goodness,  our homeland is a land of   beauty  filled with dreams!

I   sort of scratched the surface with my spring decorating over the weekend...  My cloche is housing a tribute to  Easter...
Photobucket

Situated on a handloomed linen scarf  that my great grandmother made from the flax she grew on the farm  and  decked out in  home tatted lace,  this    display    speaks  home and  sweet memories to me...
as I remember this scarf on my grandmother's  table  as a child...
therefore,  the theme of  my display  is  honoring the age old  easter bunny....
 Photobucket
that    wonderful harbinger of spring    who I was convinced lived in a hollow tree in my own backyard as a child....
Photobucket
The bunny here  rests  inside a  handmade ceramic egg  that  my mother  has  had   since I was   a teenager....   I always loved to see her bring it  forth    which meant  not too much longer til school was out for the  summer or at least  the coming spring break....

Photobucket
 Sweet, sweet memories....
the  table  also  hosts  other harbingers of  spring....
Photobucket
A very tidy  tablescape for  Spring!
