My Birthday

Today is my birthday, and to tell you the truth I haven't been that excited about getting another year older. Dont get me wrong, I am happy to be alive and God blesses my life like you wouldn't believe! However, it seemed my bones and joints have been screaming at me more and more and I have been missing having Amanda around me as I turn this corner, (not to make you feel bad, honey) but honestly, there are times when the missing is more prominent than others. It is difficult for a mother to make that final transition when their only child moves so far away. I'm thrilled for her happiness and successes and the thrill of hearing about how she is making her new home, but.... anyway, Amanda, I look forward to our phone call later, sweetie, ....

But at the same time this has been a fabulous birthday week. God provides from his heavenly bounty all good gifts when we least expect them, or when we need them most! Monday, my dear sweet mother took me ( Well, I drove her) shopping and she bought me my hearts desire... a lovely church outfit and a darling pair of pink check petal pushes ... ok,, capris.
Yesterday I got to go on a Girl's Day Outing which was phenomenally wonderful! We went up to the mountains to a small town called Floyd. There tucked away amid the rolling hills we found complete solace. We visited 3 daylily farms. The first really concentrated more on hosta varieties. I've ridden past right by this property hundreds of times and missed the secrets we discovered yesterday!
Photobucket
The day couldnt have been more perfect. The air cool and breezy, the sky crystal clear and
azure blue!
The company and fellowship so sweet as best friends shared in the wonders of God's perfect creation.

Photobucket
The setting was just perfectly suitable for the growing of gigantic hostas.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
A bit further afield we came to Wildwood, a lily farm that covered expanse after expanse of sunny colorful meadow!
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Here I found and purchased 2 gorgeous lilies, one a princely royal violet and one a golden butter variety. Both are later bloomers and will be shown off in the coming weeks. We then stopped in the town of Floyd and had a wonderful luncheon at the Blue Ridge Cafe on main Street and then perused the local hardware which has always shone off its magical garden treasures in its storefronts enticing travellers to stop in and investigate yet that was our first visit! Fun!
Many thanks to Gerri for buying my lunch yesterday! So generous and sweet of you!!!!

On our return home we stopped at another lily farm, this one distinctly different yet again though I just soaked in the rural setting and peace.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Then we stopped at a divine little coun try shop in the miniscule community of Check, Virginia and bought a homemade ice cream cone and rocked in wonderfully comfy chairs on the wrap around veranda overlooking the byway and the surrounding country. The cooling breezes and crisp clean air was electrifying. It was so difficult to leave! All too soon I was back home. But then....
today when I returned from Bible study I found a wonderful package on the the doorstep.
My Mitford Secret Pal had sent me the msot thoughtful and wonderful box of treasures.
Photobucket
What a Sensual Pamper Me Good load of goodies! Frangrant oils with warmer and tea lights, scented soap, Bath teas, a Complete packet of spa essentials, sponges, pumice stones, brush, tea assortments, every sense will be tantalized and refreshed! Thank you, Lord for loving me through this precious friend!!!! And last but not least the book, God's Anointed Times ( Celebrating the Biblical Holidays) a topic near and dear to my heart! My Secret Pal knows me well! All this for my birthday and it is not nearly over yet! See I told you I am so blessed with wonderful family, friends, and by God and His precious Holy Spirit! I cant wait to see what Lynn and Amanda come up with... and another special friend has something coming.... I love to spead it out.. dont you? I guess, I was wrong.. I love birthdays!!!!

Three or More

Alright so I am a day behind, but that's not so usual in my life these days! I had such a grand day yesterday with my buddies and will post all about that soon, but I just am compelled to share these photos in this theme today! Yesterday I was visiting my British webcams and took these wonderful photos of the Lake District... the area about which the fabled Darcy's lived, the home of the famed Beatrice Potter. I am amazed at how wonderfully these webcam shots turn out! This shot is taken at The Shires Inn a lovely pastorale locale . Sometimes there are sheep grazing in the shots.

The play of sunlight transforms these next two shots!

and my favorite!

Happy Homemaker Monday

hhm
The weather in my neck of the woods:
Today has been fairly mild with temps in the low 80's. The humidity seems to be on the rise.
There isnt a cloud in the sky considering this morning was very cloudy!
One of my simple pleasures:
Kicking back with a cup of tea and good book in my secret place.
On my bedside table:
My Love Affair with England, A Traveller's Memoir by Susan Allen Toth

On my TV:
Anything from Home and Garden or Food Network, little else.
On the menu for tonight:
Beef Stew and salad
On my To Do List:
Laundry,Sweep, Dust, and Mop the floors
New Recipe I tried last week:
A delectable recipe from Marie's English Kitchen
Lemon Mousse which would be so tasty for a tea party. I think it is well past time to plan one!
In the craft basket:
makings for new occassional cards and the latest card making magazines.
Looking forward to:
Going to Floyd tomorrow with the girls for a gardening excursion and luncheon!
Homemaking Tip for this week:
To make basic vinaigrette salad dressing use 1 part white distilled vinegar to 4 parts oil.
Favorite Blog Post of the week (mine or other):
My visit this morning with Becky of Holiday in the Sun blessed my socks off.
Favorite photo from last week:

I love that I can look right outside my studio window and see this beautiful steeple. It points my spirit right up to heaven everytime.
Lesson learned the past few days:
PRAYER: "Lord, I thank you that because you are thinking about me all the time, I don't have to waste my time thinking about myself. I trust you to care for me and for my family. I yield my mind to you for the important things you want to say to me. Amen."
AFFIRMATION: I am finished with fretting and regretting. I am now receiving and believing!
On my Prayer List:
My husband, parents, daughter and son-in-law, church, and nation
Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:
You will decree a thing and it will be established for you and light will shine on your ways (Job 22:28 NASB).
Words satisfy the mind as much as fruit does the stomach; good talk is as gratifying as a good harvest. Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose (Proverbs 18:20-22 Message Bible)

Happy Fourth of July

Photobucket

Today was a very lovely day. I first of all got to meet with the prayer team from our church where we met to discuss the new prayer initiative and continue planning our prayer chapel. Then we prayed quite soaking prayers over the church, community, nation, and world.

We celebrated the fourth here just the two of us eating our leisure breakfast on the porch. Lynn had stayed home this morning and had boiled eggs, sausage patties, and English muffins along with individual dishes of cut up strawberries with bananas and a delicious slice of banana nut bread. We chatted about our summer plans over our coffee and it was a beautiful morning at home.

This afternoon Dottie and Bill picked us up and drove us to our local tea party. It was my first, but certainly not my last!
We estimated approximately 1500 people turned out with their red, white, and blue and posters covering many issues.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
The speakers were empassioned, informed, and inspiring!
Photobucket
Some demonstrated more disdain than others...

Some like Lynn and Bill enjoyed the information booths where they picked up voting records of our State assemblymen. It behooves us all to get informed and become more proactive in civic affairs. Our freedoms and liberty are at stake!

Pink Saturday

Today I am priveleged to share some pinkness that my dearest friend, Dottie, has shared with me. We visited her gorgeous gardens this week, and her yard resounds with the glory of pink in every hue! The shades cover the spectrum from palest rosy pink...

Friday's Favorite Family Foto

Deborah of Pencils, Pots, and Pens has taken a summer respite from this theme so I wanted to end this season with a shot of the newest member of my fammily!Last night we visited with my sister in Christ, Dottie, on her most comfortable screened in deck. The air was amazing, the night so refreshing, the fellowship, sublime... anyway her precious (daughter), Heather toddled over to me and started showing my shins lot of drooly attention which really was the sweetest expression of her loving heart, as Dottie announced, "See how much Heather loves her Auntie"
So I wished to share this fabulous shot Dottie took of Heather, my neice, as she toddled up the deck stairs this week.....

Word Filled Wednesday

Photobucket
As I drive past many beautiful churches my heart swells with love for God's house. Worship music, psalms lifted in praise, and powerful teaching from God's Word resonate in my heart each time I pass by a House of God. Wonder working prayers of God' children should be oozing from every door and window, .....yet I wonder. Too often there is so much pride, too much self seeking, too much carnality and complacency which thwarts the move of the Spirit and churches all over the country are spiraling into oblivion! Peter wrote in I Peter 3:38, "Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble."
Sisters, we need to fall on our faces in prayer for the churches, that God might emanate through the body with power and effectual witness. We need to demonstrate the love of Jesus and practice a lowliness of spirit, dispelling the pride that rises up and seeks to consume us. Pray for revival to overtake the land and reclaim the hills of our habitation!

An Evening Stroll

Photobucket
around the yard last evening as the sun was beginning to dip into the western sky,
I found a lot of activity in the shrub bed. with the installation of our new fence, the propery line never has looked so good!
Photobucket
Lynn moved our dozen or so tomoato plants over there to catch the afternoon sun!
But because some old fencing wasnt replaced it revealed azaleas tht had gone haywire! It took two to get it back ino submission.
Photobucket
Our neighbor, Jeff, and Lynn worked really hard up until after dark!
Of course, knowing those two a goodly amount of that time as spent chatting!
Photobucket
So I strolled on around looking at how nicely things were looking in the gloaming light!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
As I meandered on around to the back I was met by the springing forth of the lilies which mark the coming of summer!

I exchanged my spring banner for a new one!
